This eight-week course explores human performance in the workplace from three distinct levels of analysis. The first level of analysis focuses on factors that influence the choice of behaviors of individuals in the workplace. The second level of analysis focuses on the interface individuals and groups and teams in the workplace. The final level of analysis focuses on the interface between individual workers, groups of workers, and organizational processes.
An introduction to statistical methods as they apply to business and economics. Emphasis is placed on using computer tools to analyze data and preparing written reports based on the analyses. The course is designed to assist the M.B.A. student to better understand the nature of decision making using standard statistical tools. Problem solving and class discussion are the primary techniques of instruction, with additional directed assignment using computer-based research tools to conduct statistical analyses
Will take an application-oriented approach, and provide students with the tools and skills necessary to solve business problems and exploit business opportunities. There will be a thorough review of qualitative research and will include sample size rules-of-thumb, conducting background literature reviews, and new market research tools and techniques. Provides students with a strong understanding of market research principles in an 8-week format.
To begin the class, we are going to look at “the other half of the world” and learn how the global economy functions for most people. Then we will explore the question… is there opportunity in poverty… both for business and for the people afflicted by poverty. We will then move into the rapidly developing markets of China and India, look at other “alternative” key economies like the Middle East and Africa, and finally focus on high finance and Western economies. There is a lot to cover in 8 weeks. To maximize your understanding, we will look to current world events to emphasize what is happening and how it affects the global economy.
This course will serve as a graduate level introduction to the field of marketing. The theoretical foundations of marketing management are explored and students will be introduced to the concepts and related decisions that marketing managers face in their efforts to bring together the objectives and resources of their organizations with the needs and opportunities in the marketplace. In addition, through reading and discussion, students will be exposed to timely strategies, tactics, and administrative issues surrounding marketing decisions as described by marketing professionals. In addition, students will have the opportunity to design and present a focused marketing plan for a client.
This course focuses on the development and analysis of teaching, learning and testing strategies in nursing education. Students will be introduced to teaching, learning and testing constructs and concepts in the context of nursing education including philosophy of education, principles of teaching and learning, history of nursing education, learning styles, and critical thinking. Distance methodologies will be explored. Ethical/legal principles within the context of nursing education will be discussed.
The emphasis of this course will be the understanding of the vital nature of diverse human resources in health care delivery and nursing. Selected topics include professional growth, performance appraisal, recruitment, hiring, retention, promotion, conflict management, collective bargaining and diversity. Legal, ethical, and labor issues will be discussed, as will the use of motivation and power
Managerial Economics is an intermediate-level applied microeconomics course, designed to help students understand how economic principles can be applied to management decisions. In addition to developing economic tools and concepts used in the decision making process, the course provides an understanding of the various market structures in which an enterprise may operate, as well as game and pricing theory.
Hospitality Management is designed to focus on applying managerial techniques and decision making to functional areas of the hospitality industry. The course is more industry-relevant than most – emphasizing the people, companies, and positions that make up the hospitality industry today. Moving beyond just restaurants and hotels, the course includes new growth areas such as event management, meeting planning, cruising, theme parks, attractions and entertainment. Social responsibility, sustainability, and managerial ethics will be discussed to show that social responsibility is a response to a changing environment and that ethical considerations should be an important criterion in managerial decision making in the hospitality industry.
